Breast/chestfeeding advice IBCLC

As a certified  lactation consultant IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant)
I’m happy to be there for you.

Breastf/chestfeeding is colorful and diverse. From my experience as a midwife and mother, I know that breast/chestfeeding is a very intimate and elementary experience for women/parents. But although it’s a very natural process, breast/chestfeeding can become a real challenge for various reasons. With the special knowledge of a certified  lactation consultant, I’m able to advise and help on the following topics, situations and difficulties.

Topics of advice:

  • During pregnancy: preparation for breast/chestfeeding
  • Learning different breast/chestfeeding techniques
  • Types of breast/chestfeeding: partial breast/chestfeeding, pumped breast/ chestfeeding, long-term, tandem, and twin feeding
  • Healthy nutrition during breast/chestfeeding
  • Couple relationship and sexuality during breast/chestfeeding
  • Correct use of nursing aids such as a breast pump, nipple shields, etc.
  • Breast/chestfeeding and professional activity
  • Safe bottle feeding
  • Introduction of complementary feeding
  • Soft weaning

Difficulties:

  •  Wound  nipples (mamilla) and pain while breast/chestfeeding
  • Plugged ducts and mastitis
  • Suckle confusion and suckle weakness by the baby
  • Failure to thrive
  • High need babies
  • Breast/chestfeeding under difficult conditions – in diseases of the mother or baby
  • Special assessment, advice and interdisciplinary support for tight oral tissues (frenulum of lips and frenulum of tongue as well as buccal folds)

Some of the above difficulties can be caused by this oral restrictions. In order to be able to make a safe assessment, a careful medical history, a holistic examination and a thorough assessment of the tongue and oral  function according to a recognized score system are required.

In a team with experienced doctors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and speech therapists, exercises are developed and carried out together with the parents in combination with possible separation.
